I have tried dozens of different sippy, straw and trainer cups and this is the worst one so far.
My 18 month old got VERY frustrated with this cup.
I tried it myself as well, and unless you really press your nose into the plate in the center of the cup, the flow is very minimal.
Not only that, but I think it actually hinders the transition to a normal cup, because one of the biggest hurdles is knowing how far back to tip the cup. With this cup, you can tip it upside down, but unless you press the plate, nothing is coming out.
Also, like other avent sippies, the valve is multiple pieces that should really be taken apart at each use and washed unless you want mold growing in there - even with just water.
They say not to use this cup with juice either, and I think milk would really get in the nooks and crannies as well.

So at least its leakproof then, right? Sort of.
It's true that it doesn't leak if the plate isn't pressed, but it doesn't take much to press the plate a little and allow a slow dribble.
For that reason I wouldn't use it as an accident-proof cup for in the car or other unsupervised use anyway. A straw cup works much better for that purpose.

If you're restricting to water anyway, spend a couple weeks transitioning to a regular cup and save yourself the hassle of another unnecessary "transitional" stage.
Sure, there will be some spills, but it will be over faster, and you can use a straw cup (which would still have adult applications later) for the times you need something less messy....

Great Cups

I thought these cups were very good for my child in helping her learn to drink from a cup on her own and hoping it would help with her spilling that happens with the learning process. The cups did great in the sense that she was able to hold them very easy and could use one or both hands with no problems. The one thing I didn't like was that she was able to drink from all sides and it created messes when she would tip the cup sideways as there was no way to stop it from coming out from all sides so that was a little bit of a problem but nothing that was a major problem. overall they were easy to clean and the top was easy for on/off and it did come with a little top to put over the cup to keep it from spilling when not in use. It has helped my child learn how to drink without a lot of mess and would recommend this to others.

Big Girl cup

My 18 month old daughter has been using this sippy/ drinking cup for about 2 weeks and she still hasn't got used to it, leaves her shirt soak and wet. I think it's a pretty cool idea to get a child to learn to drink from a sippy cup with the 360' rim almost just like an adult cup but just takes some getting used to I’m assuming. I wouldn't take this cup anywhere other than being at home because it's very messy. The first day my daughter used this I had to change her shirt and shorts 3 times. Now into 2 weeks it's only been once a day changing her clothes. Now more about the cup.

Pros:
The handles are perfect for those small hands, leak proof, (until child touches the rim), dish washer safe, Very easy to take apart to clean and put back together (3 parts)
The design is really nice the patterns/colors on the drinking cup is very pretty.

Other than the rim leaks a lot when my daughter touches the rim. I really do like this product. Just takes some time for you little one to get used to.

Great design, Great product,

Takes some getting used to but could be very good!

My grandson is just learning to drink from different kinds of cups. Sippy straws, nipples, and recently his cereal bowls. I got these Avent cups so that he could make the next step to a real cup. No straws (although at 15 months he loves those!) and trying to move away from the bottle. On the positive side he really loves being able to carry it and drink from all sides of the lip, and it is a bonus that it comes in a 2 pack. Since he is just learning he definitely does let the liquid slide out of his mouth even though the opening on the lip is very slight and his juice or water comes out very slowly. I think with practice that will stop. He really likes holding both of the handles when he drinks and I like seeing the stability of 2 hands holding on. It is also easy to carry with one hand when he toddles on to whatever he is involved with. On the negative side it comes apart into 6 different pieces to clean. In my opinion when there are that many pieces you have to throw it away when you lose just one of them One good thing about the cups breaking down into so many pieces is that you can feel comfortable that the whole thing is clean.The size of the cup and lip are good for a toddler and the handle placement works perfectly. I think this is a good learning tool for toddlers and as long as you don't take it apart away from home I think it is a great product! I only gave it 4 stars due to the amount of pieces needed to use it properly!

Great cup for a newbie to learn on!!

This is a great cup. It has the perfect design to train a kid to drink from a cup / glass. My grandson is 14 months old and he loves these cups. Now when he wants a drink out of our glass he is getting better about not letting half of it run down his chin. There is a down side to these cups for the parents / grandparents. There are a ton of pieces to the lid. Also, if you don't want them stained up be careful as to what you put into them. Grape juice will stain them. I do plan on buying the girl 2-pack for my grand daughter. She is a special needs child that doesn't understand drinking out of a glass so she is still using the sippy cups. We have tried these cups a few times with her and feel that wants she understands these she will be able to drink out of a glass better.

Big boy cups

I think these Philips AVENT drinking cups are nice and cute for children 12 months and up. Philip makes many products that are high-quality for children and these are very nice and easy to use. I did have to look at the instructions to take the inside plastic flow protector out to wash and it was fairly easy. I really like the side ounce indicator so you can see how many ounces you are serving. I like the two handles on each side of the lid which makes it easy for my child to get a good hold of the cup and drink. The floral pattern design is very cute for my daughter and I like that they are BPA free. My daughter right away figured out how to use these cups and I only serve water inside them due to a little bit of liquid lingering around the inside rim. That's why I gave this product only three stars because of the little bit of liquid I noticed that's always there after she takes a drink. She uses different types of sippy cups and these are the only ones that are similar to a regular drinking cup.

Nice set of drinking cups

The Philips AVENT 9 Ounce Natural Drinking Cup, 2 Pack Boy was the second brand of training cup I have tried. I was pretty happy with the first brand but received these as part of WalMart's Spark Reviewer program. They are vibrantly colored with nice sturdy handles. The lid comes apart for cleaning but good luck getting it back together without instructions. There are four pieces to the lid! I do not like the fact that the sipper part is hard plastic. The other brand I tried was a softer rubber. The competition's brand was also much easier to assemble and take apart. My twenty month old twins didn't seem to mind the cup too much. I did notice a little frustration because they had trouble getting all of the liquid out of the cup. They held on to the handles really well and the ailler part seemed to function as it should. My twins love to throw their cups on to the floor when they are finished drinking. This usually causes a big leaky mess for me to clean up. The Philips AVENT 9 Ounce Natural Drinking Cup, 2-Pack didn't leak a lot when thrown down. I washed the bottom of the cup in the dishwasher but not the lid because I didn't want all the pieces flying around. I hand washed the lid. Overall, this cup is compatible to other brands but not at the top of my list.

Not my favorite training cup

I was excited to get these for my 1 1/2 year old. I hoped it would help her learn to drink from a real cup. She doesn't seem to like it at all. You have to press your mouth on the side of the cup to get the milk out. I guess she is just used to sucking it out the cup. It does have a lid you can out on it, but if they throw it down without the lid in it will spill. I guess maybe she just isn't into it but it might work well for other kids.

Not what I expected

To start I got this product in exchange for an honest review. I don't really care for this particular "sippy-cup". I don't like the way its put together, in order to get a drink you almost have to tip your head all the way back, and your nose presses against the cup. Its just not a comfortable design, however it is spill proof for the most part. I can shake it all around, and upside down, but unless I press the top thingy in its not going to leak. I do have a problem with it leaking while my 2 year old is using it though, she will tilt her head back and to the side to get a drink and milk will spill out around her mouth making her shirt wet. You can call it user error, but if your going to design a sippy-cup for a toddler you should expect things like improper drinking form. Hope this was helpful!

not for me

I will say the concept is neat but it didn't work for us. With this cup you can put your mouth at any part of the rim and the liquid comes out. The pressure from your lips release the seal. I have a 2 and 3 yr old that tried them and even the 3 yr old who drinks from normal cups had a hard time. I tried it myself and it dribbles out so it would take forever just to get a good sip. When my two yr old used it, it seemed to not come out evenly so it was pouring out the side of her mouth. And it has too many parts for me! With three kids I would like to toss in the dishwasher and be done but this you have to take to lid apart in 4 (5 including snap on top for travel) different pieces and then you have to worry about putting it back together which was a bit tricky for a sippy cup. I like quick and easy and these cups are not! I wouldn't call them spill proof either. Overall I would definitely NOT recommend these cups. The only thing I did like was the fun colors and cute pictures.
